Edgenet's Julia Fenn on Her Visit to the Nashville Software School

NSS

Julia Fenn is the Executive Assistant at Edgenet. After working at Edgenet for over two years, Julia is an expert on our brand, our products, and our people. Working closely with our CEO and Customer Success teams, Julia assists with everything from recruiting, to attending industry conferences. She recently visited the Nashville Software School with several of our developers, and shared some details of her experience with us.

What valuable subjects and tools did you learn about during your experience at Nashville Software School (NSS)?
I wanted to learn about the skill set of the outgoing graduates, how we could leverage their talents, and provide an accessible entry point for junior devs. I learned a lot of new technical lingo which is very important! It helps to be able to know coding terms to be able to help drive conversations with incoming technical talent—if you don’t know how to talk their language, they may not be interested.

How do you think attending NSS will benefit your work at Edgenet?
Creating a partnership with NSS is going to be invaluable—we currently do not have any relationships with local schools because we've previously not had time to manage it as a company. There are huge talent pools out there waiting to be tapped into! We are just getting started! I want to have a solid point of contact at the two prominent software schools of Nashville to help advance business initiatives. It would be great to be able to have a way to easily source talent (especially technical talent).

What relevant industry trends did you learn about at NSS?
Junior dev roles can rarely find jobs just out of the gate—they need to be worked into companies somehow where they can develop side-by-side with a mentor.

Do you think attending NSS will improve areas of your work outside of coding and software development?
Absolutely. The goal was to drive business growth via talent acquisition.

Do you think other Edgenet employeess who aren’t developers would benefit from attending NSS?
Maybe. It just depends on the goal. I think the more networking we can do at NSS, the better! There is a lot of great talent there.
